Cycling with family in the Triangolo Lariano
A 16 km loop trail with a minimum elevation of 350 m and a maximum elevation of 650 m above sea level. In total there is a positive elevation gain of about 430 m...almost like walking the floors of the Empire State Building!
This route has moderate difficulty, and for some rocky sections it is recommended to use a bicycle over 14 years of age.
We will start from the village of Canzo, which preserves a fascinating history dating back to the Bronze Age. The village was also chosen as a "good retreat" by the famous Manzoni. This route is ideal to do in a day to discover rural life and be in contact with nature! You can visit a dairy to understand the art of dairymen, have a picnic in the pasture in the company of alpine browns, and discover the world of herbalist traditions. The walk along the Lambro River to learn about the millers and their work is truly characteristic. You can also visit medieval and Romanesque churches in ancient villages and rural cores. You will be immersed in chestnut groves that show signs of water and wind over the centuries, really fascinating! On the way we will also travel along the Lambro, the left tributary of the Po, traveling from the days of agricolutra, to the industrial revolution.
You will depart from Asso and follow the signs toward Valbrona where you will see the Church of San Michele and take the mule track that leads to the ancient rural settlement of Alpe di Megna. You will pass by the meadows with your bike in hand to respect the herds and flocks accompanied by sheepdogs that you will meet free grazing. You will find another church on your way passing through Lasnigo: the Church of St. Joseph dated 1757 also called "dei Morti di Valmorana" because it was built at the behest of Mr. Giuseppe Mazza following an escaped danger on the then communal lazaret called precisely Valmorana where the plague victims of Lasnigo were buried in 1531. Inside the church for this reason some bones of the plague victims are kept in a shrine.
Next you will continue into the historic center of Lasnigo characterized by cobblestones and large doorways chiseled into ancient granite portals. You will then descend into the Valle dei Mulini where you will take the road to Bellagio. At the end of the descent you will arrive in the center of Asso and continue via Lazzaretto arriving at the Oratory SS. Giovanni e Paolo along an exclusively bicycle path.
You will then continue to the pedestrian footbridge over the Lambro to arrive near the Canzo-Asso Station and in a few minutes you will arrive at the starting point.
